A ROYAL HAVEN

HISTORY OF THE LOCATION A ROYAL HAVEN
Now The Residences at Goldwynn, the property once called the Gold Blossom has an impressive and storied legacy. Constructed in 1936 in the traditional British colonial architectural style, the famous estate in Nassau featured pastel colours and long, sweeping verandas overlooking the pristine and yet to be discovered shoreline. Many decades later, this would become known as the fashionable resort destination of Cable Beach. Some of the Gold Blossom’s earliest patrons were no less than royalty. When King Edward the VIII abdicated the throne in what became known as “the love story of the century” out of devotion for the twice-divorced Lady Wallace Simpson, he and his wife were banished to an obscure part of the British Empire – The Bahamas – to ride out the war that was soon to engulf Europe.

Edward ran social circles in Nassau and was known to frequent the Gold Blossom, regularly dining in its grand ballroom, and is even rumoured to have resided there before eventually settling at Westbourne. Among the Gold Blossom’s other distinguished patrons was Clark Gable, his signature discovered in a log book from 1952. No doubt many of the island’s famous residents such as Sean Connery, who filmed Thunderball in the Bahamas, passed through its doors as well.

In 2013, the Wynn Group acquired the Gold Blossom, renaming it The Goldwynn – representing both owner Paul Wynn’s passion and commitment, while preserving the estate’s glamourous heritage. Its colourful history shall be on display at Bar Paul, to be relished by patrons and embellished by Wynn.
